Lake Geneva

yesterday, we drove out to Lake Geneva (about an hour and a half drive from Madison) to meet up with Phil's parents and Phil's brother, Mike, and wife, Megan. we gathered to celebrate Phil's parents' 40th wedding anniversary.

we had lunch at a restaurant called "Tempura House" and it was actually a house that was converted into a restaurant, so we had our own room and that was kind of fun.

brrrr! it was cold by the lake and yes, it was still quite frozen! can't believe it's spring!

Happy Easter!

we had a cold Easter - we hope you had warmer weather! Phil went out early to put the eggs out in our backyard, but almost not early enough! Skye woke up early, all excited for the egg hunt and caught a glimpse of Phil through the window. but she didn't really connect him with the eggs and i didn't elaborate. :) here are some shots of the girls busy getting the eggs. and a movie of Claire who got to egg hunt for the very first time (see side bar).

if you remember reading my blog entry from last Easter, a hungry squirrel had managed to claw open an egg and ate one of Skye's chocolates. fortunately, we had no such loss today. perhaps it was too cold and snowy for the squirrels.

Snow in spring

just as i was thinking it'll soon be time to put the snow gear away, we get another snowfall. it is snowing all day long today. the sun did such great work melting it all away and now everything is covered once more! i am amazed at the winter's persistence, but i do hope this is the last of it. we were so excited to see a crocus blooming in front of our house, but we didn't get to enjoy it because a hungry bunny came by and ate it up! and now the second bloom that had come up is completely covered with snow.

we had a glorious spring-like day yesterday when the girls and i met some friends at the zoo. Claire was unbelievably happy and busy running around, pointing at all the animals and enjoying being outside. we could even sit outside for snack time! but alas, today is another wintry day, but we got a good taste of spring yesterday and we keep hoping we'll have more soon!

Anthony Minghella

i was saddened to hear of the death of Anthony Minghella (who directed great movies such as The English Patient, The Talented Mr. Ripley, Cold Mountain). he made such beautiful, epic movies. i had always dreamed that if i were to ever write my novel, Mr. Minghella would make it into one of his great movies...well, there goes my dream.

Spring?

do i dare say that it feels like spring is coming? the past couple of days have been sunny and warm (by warm, we're talking 30s) and the snow has started to melt! well, i'm just happy to see the sun. the past week has been rough - the girls and i have been sick - but it seems we are coming out of that now.

here are some pictures of the girls.

fun reading time on their rocking chairs

even though the weather has warmed up, there's still plenty of snow on the ground!

and here we are making some bread

Kindergarten registration

today was the big day. i picked Skye up from preschool and we headed over to what will be her new school next year. it was stressful - there were forms and forms to fill out and Skye and Claire were with me, but we managed to get through it. we have orientation and open house to attend next month which will be more fun, i think.
